Mr. Parulekar is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. Mr Parulekar trained in Mumbai, Oxford and Toronto and was appointed to his consultant position in 2007.
Mr. Parulekar treats a wide range of childhood eye conditions including squints (strabismus), paediatric cataracts and glaucoma, oculoplastics (eyelid surgery) and neuro-ophthalmology, ocular oncology, and external eye diseases. He is an expert in assessment and treatment of adult squints and neuro-ophthalmic disorders.
Mr Parulekar has private clinics in Oxford, Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield, and receives referrals from all over the UK and Europe.
Mr. Parulekar has delivered over 120 invited lectures and conducted 20 international workshops in Europe, the USA, Canada, Asia, South America, and Africa. He has published over 50 papers in journals, written 14 book chapters, and co-authored a textbook- Lecture Notes in Ophthalmology. He holds 10 research grants including Wellcome Trust, Fight for Sight, and MRC UK. Mr. Parulekar is Section Editor for the journal Eye of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and Advisory Board member, Indian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has been visiting professor in Ottawa, Canada, and Wills Eye Hospital, USA, and has delivered named lectures in the USA and Canada, including the prestigious Crawford lecture at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.
Mr Parulekar was awarded a National Excellence Award by the Department of Health, UK for his contributions to the NHS. He is a Trustee of Sightsavers International, Treasurer of Oxford Ophthalmological Congress, and Member of Paediatric, Academic and International Medical Graduates Committees of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
